Quote from the supervisor: “Michelle Gabani started working for us in the Fall semester of 2018.  One of my earliest impressions was that she had a “can do” attitude with a matching work ethic.  She was a new student working with experienced students, but it wasn’t long until she was the driving force on the team.  She was quick to take ownership, and then initiative, and then began to lead by example, working diligently while also helping others to do the same.  She is now a senior and will graduate in May of 2022.  Her college career has not been a smooth and easy path but has been filled with adversity, and yet through each challenge she has continued to shine as an example of resilience, grit and determination.  She plans ahead making sure that our entire team succeeds.  She trouble-shoots when people, plans or processes don’t function as they should.  She facilitates communication between herself and her peers and between work supervisors and fellow students, often initiating difficult conversations.  Michelle has been an outstanding example of work, discipline, responsibility and character.  Her display of these qualities has served to make our world a better place.”

OUR WORK COLLEGE MEMBERS

There are currently ten federally recognized Work Colleges, and nine are members of the Work Colleges Consortium. These institutions are small, private, liberal arts colleges with modest enrollments that range from about 150 to approximately 1,600 students. Each school is unique and operates the work program in a slightly different fashion. However, “work-learning-service” is a central component of each Work College. Student work, coupled with robust academics and a spirit of service, is the common denominator shared by all the Work Colleges.
