Nathaniel Scott
Paul Quinn College

My experience in the Work Program at Paul Quinn College transformed me into a well-rounded leader by exposing me to a business casual dress code and a diverse student body. As an on-campus worker assigned to the WE Over Me Farm, I quickly climbed the ladder to become a student supervisor and training facilitator of community volunteer groups. Through this experience I developed crucial public speaking, teamwork/ collaboration, and management skills. Additionally, I had the opportunity to raise awareness about Food Deserts in Dallas by being interviewed by and featured on local news stations.
After proving myself on-campus, I was selected to participate in the Corporate Work Program. My internship with the City of Dallas Sanitation Services - Zero Waste recycling initiative lead to a full-time job offer as an Office Assistant after graduating from Paul Quinn in 2017. Now, I have been promoted to Coordinator in my company.”
UNIFIED BY PURPOSE
OUR WORK COLLEGE MEMBERS
There are currently ten federally recognized Work Colleges, and nine are members of the Work Colleges Consortium. These institutions are small, private, liberal arts colleges with modest enrollments that range from about 150 to approximately 1,600 students. Each school is unique and operates the work program in a slightly different fashion. However, “work-learning-service” is a central component of each Work College. Student work, coupled with robust academics and a spirit of service, is the common denominator shared by all the Work Colleges.
