Ivy Fitzsimmons is a senior soccer player and member of the Construction Crew. She took it upon herself to call local business and ask for donations to build a fence at the soccer fields that would save the Athletics Crew from having to forge through “Death Hill” (a downward slope next to the fields that is covered in brambles) to recover lost balls.
Ivy not only raised $4,000 to cover the costs, she also got her crew involved in running the fence installation the day of Work Day. She was honored by Katie Wurst, our Assistant Athletics Director, and her supervisor of four years, Doug Bradley with a speech and a plaque commemorating her contributions. The initiative and community mindset Ivy has shown speaks to the magic of Work Day at Warren Wilson and the valuable Work Learning Service opportunities students experience at work colleges.
